Booth management: Cong charts out plan, ex-cop to lead the way

The state Congress has worked out a comprehensive plan for managing around 44,500 election booths across the state, and at the helm of this planning is former additional DGP V V Rabari, who joined the party after retiremen.

Sources said as part of the planning, around 4.5 lakh workers have been appointed exclusively to manage the activities at the booth level in Gujarat.

A senior leader of the party said so far, booth management was being handled by the respective candidates of a particular constituency with some support of the party. However, this is for the first time that a comprehensive plan has been worked out for the management of the booths at ground zero.

The booth planning committee had been working on this for the past six months. And according to details, the plan includes a pyramid structure for the booth planning starting from the constituency level. Each constituency is having a booth management in-charge. This hierarchy goes through district, taluka and village level and reaches till a particular booth in a constituency.

Each booth has an in-charge to be assisted by 7-8 workers. These workers have also been provided with list of each and every voter under the booth along with their bifurcation on the basis of their surnames. The booth workers have also been provided with the data on how many voters voted in favour of Congress and BJP respectively.

Treasurer of Gujarat Congress and chairman of the party's Booth Planning Committee Balwant Rajput said, "Before this, we used to plan on a small scale. But, this time we are doing it in a big way."

Rabari said around 4.5 lakh workers have been appointed across the state.

The move is aiming to mobilise the workers before the election and to prepare a ground for a selected candidate to work on his/her constituency.
