Amid the city’s water crisis, few residents of Borivali have been complaining of contaminated water supply. According to the residents of Govind Nagar in Borivali, they have been getting contaminated water for the last fifteen days.
Assistant engineer at the water department in the ward, Mangesh Shevale, said, “The contamination is due to the leakage but we haven’t found the spot of the leakage.” Presently, tankers are being supplied to some of the buildings in the area everyday but residents say the water is not sufficient for them.
Vaishali Mehta, a resident of Govind Nagar, said, “The water is little yellow in color so we can not store it. We keep the tap open and let the water flow for at least half an hour before we get usable water.” Niyati Hatangdi, another resident, said, “We have been facing this problem for quite some time now. The water smells bad and is yellowish in colour. This water is not fit for consuming.”
The residents complain that the problem has reoccurred thrice since last year. The secretary of Rajendra Society in Govind Nagar, Vartak, said, “The BMC did some repair works in the area in the past and resolved the problem temporarily but it reoccurs. This time, it has been 15 days but they haven’t been able to spot the leakage point.”
The main concern of the residents is the health problems posed by the contaminated water. Vaishali added, “The doctor in our area used to keep medicines ready for the patients with complaints o vomiting and diarrhoea. The water also has a foul smell. We use the water to wash our clothes and our clothes also smell bad.”
