Maulana Saleem of Azamgarh Sadar accused Yogi of deliberately spreading communal discord in the area. “Yogi is an outsider and he wants us (Hindu and Muslim) to clash so that he can gain political mileage.” He urged his men to show patience and refrain from violence.
Meanwhile, the district witnessed a complete bandh on Monday. In Azamgarh, though no untoward incident has been reported, a heavy police force was keeping strict vigil in sensitive areas. On Monday, the police made 226 preventive arrests in Eastern UP districts including Azamgarh, Gorakhpur and Siddhartha Nagar. “We have arrested 15 people for the attack on the MP’s vehicles and the subsequent clash,” said Garg.
