A 16-year-old boy was abducted while he was asleep at his home in Ratwara village in Mohali during wee hours on Thursday. He was recovered in the evening and the abductors were arrested.
Balwinder Singh was asleep when a group of around six persons abducted him around 2 am and fled in a Hyundai Ascent car, investigating officer (IO) ASI Harbhajan Singh told Newsline.
One Manjit Singh and his brother-in-law Balwinder Singh of Sainimajra village in Mohali were caught hiding the boy on the link road leading from Ratwara to Masatgarh around 4 pm, the IO revealed.
The accused were produced before a local court, which remanded them to a two-day police custody to facilitate the police to arrest other accomplices, who are still on the run.
The car used by the abductors was also recovered.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that the boy's elder brother Surinder Singh had married Manjit's daughter against the wishes of her family, a few days ago.
On Tuesday, they had moved the High Court seeking protection from the girl's parents.
The abducted boy's father, Mohan Singh, told the police that the accused entered their house and abducted Balwinder.
They asked Mohan to sen Manjit’s daughter back in return of Balwinder’s release, the IO said.
Surinder and his wife were, however, hiding at an undisclosed location.
