Boy accused of thefts in 60 cases held

  • The Panchkula police arrested a minor on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in as many as 60 cases of minor thefts in Punjab and Haryana. The 15-year old was caught red-handed selling a stolen laptop in Old Panchkula after the police received a tip off on his whereabouts.

    “The youth has been involved in a number of minor thefts, a majority of which involved breaking the car window glass and stealing laptops, costly items in various parts of Punjab and Haryana. Also, the minor was arrested by the Hoshiarpur and Ludhiana police and sent to a juvenile home for five and four months respectively before he came here”, said a police official.

    The police have recovered two stolen laptops from the accused. “The parents of the accused live in hutments in Sector 10 and their role in the theft remains to be investigated. Besides, the one stolen laptop he was trying to sell yesterday, we have also recovered another laptop that he had hidden near his hutment”, added the police official.

    The minor is a part of a bigger gang, police claimed and investigations into the case have started. “The minor was produced in the court today and sent to a juvenile home in Sonepat,” the police official added.
