  • A 12-Year-old boy died of electrocution after he allegedly came in contact with an open wire lying on the road in Seemapuri, Northeast Delhi, on Friday evening.

The victim, Mohammed Shakeel, was heading home after a round of evening cricket with friends when the incident occurred in front of the Seemapuri bus stand, a police officer said.

Work to install streetlights is going on in the locality area, and the police suspect workers left the wire open.

“He was going home after a game in the local park with friends and while crossing the road, jumped on the divider. There are small pits on the divider due to the ongoing work, and the boy fell in one of the pits and came in contact with the naked wire,” the officer said.

With his friends raising alarm, locals took the boy out and rushed him for treatment. “But he couldn’t survive,” the officer added.

Shakeel’s father, Mohammed Sheru is a fruit vendor. He has 11 children, and the family stays in Old Seemapuri, the police said.

At Seemapuri police station, Sheru said, “A local resident told me what had happened and that he had been taken for treatment. But the police told me that he has died.”

Officials at the police station said a case Under Section 304A (negligence) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Seemapuri police station against unknown agency for the incident.

“We are investigating who is at fault — the engineers or the contractor,” the officer said. “Names would be added (in the FIR) after the investigations.”

A BOARD MUST BE PUT IN FRONT OF THE PITBy: Bijesh ramesh | 11-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward A board must be put in front of the pit. They have to write "careful electrical work ahead" so the people going through that way be carefull. Doing this we can prevent such accident.
