Police suspect he had gone to the terrace to smoke ganja
A BPO employee was found dead on the floor of a duct between two sides of the roof of the City Center, a three-storey commercial complex in Pune Camp around 4pm Wednesday. Police identified him as Sylvestor Edburge Arland (25), who was a resident of the nearby Modi Khana locality in Camp.
Police who conducted preliminary investigations suspect that Arland, along with a friend, had gone to the terrace to smoke ganja. A pouch of ganja was found where Arland had fallen to his death, police said.
It is believed someone working in an office in the building locked the terrace door, which scared Arland and his friend, and they clambered on to a fibre-top roof to cross to the other side of the roof. It gave way and Arland plunged to his death, police suspect.
Cantonment police have detained Arland's friend and some staff at the office housed in the building. They are investigating to find why Arland had gone to the terrace and are trying to fit in the pieces to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Senior police inspector Sushma Chavan said, "We found a pouch of ganja along with the body. Investigation is on to find out what exactly transpired." She added Arland had gone to the terrace with a friend.
Arland's friend, is also a resident of the area near the City Center.
Police suspect that finding the door locked, the two youths got scared thinking some staff in the building had called police to nab them. To hide themselves, the youths clambered to the other side of the terrace over a fibre-roof over the duct and when Arland was walking over it, it gave way under his weight, police suspect.
