Those in the Trinidad and Tobago dressing room say there’s never a dull moment when the Bravos are around. The half-brothers — Dwayne the singer and Darren the drummer — are part of a band called ‘Roofcoat’ back home and the team entertainers on tours.
“Dwayne is a terrific singer. He keeps the atmosphere light wherever he goes. Not just in the dressing room; even at home, when he is around, we laugh all the time,” says Darren, younger of the two. The junior Bravo adds that Dwayne is the real all-rounder. “Like on field, where he can do everything, in music too he is into multi-tasking. He writes his own songs and can compose music within minutes,” he says. The two are planning to bring out an album once they return home.
Darren had heard several India stories from Dwayne, who had a memorable stint with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL’s first season. “He said that once, after a win, he started to sing in the team bus. Everyone joined him and that included a cop who was there to provide security. It was a real funny story,” says Darren.
What drew most attention in the West Indies was Dwayne’s return from the IPL in a private jet, owned by the franchise owner, Mukesh Ambani. “That made us realise the seriousness of the IPL,” says Darren, who got a pair of shoes from his brother. “He told me to work hard. He is a very supportive brother; earlier we used to hang out together a lot but now we both are busy,” Darren says.
