The death of a 25-year-old woman in the Swarrop Rani Nehru Hospital due to alleged medical negligence sparked off a brawl between the patient’s attendants and the hospital staff on Tuesday.
The attendants of Baby Naaz (25) alleged that she was made to wait for hours outside the ultrasound department of the hospital.
“We waited outside the ultrasound department for three hours. I saw the staff and technicians taking money from other attendants and allowing their patients in, despite the fact that we had arrived before them. I objected, but they did not listen. The condition of my sister, meanwhile, deteriorated and she died on the stretcher,” said Mohammed Hafiz, a resident of Sultanpur Bhawa.
As the attendants began manhandling the technicians and other staff members, security guards posted at the hospital retaliated. Police had to be called in to control the situation.
“I have ordered an inquiry into the bribery accusations made against the attendants. I have also requested the police to lodge an FIR against the rowdy attendants for the brawl and the damage they caused to the hospital,” said Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Shradha Dwivedi.
The police have lodged an FIR against the attendants on the written complaint of the junior doctors and technicians.
The patient’s attendants, meanwhile, faxed a written complaint against the junior doctors and technicians to Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandra Prakash.
“We are investigating the matter,” he said.
