BRICS to take ‘other view’ on Syria,Iran

The Delhi Declaration — the outcome document of the BRICS summit — will put forward the “contrarian view” on Syria and Iran that will be against the “drumbeats of war”

The Delhi Declaration — the outcome document of the BRICS summit on Thursday — will put forward the “contrarian view” on Syria and Iran that will be against the “drumbeats of war” being propounded by the Western countries, government sources told The Indian Express on Wednesday night. The West has been pushing for military intervention in the two countries.

Negotiators from India,China,Russia,Brazil and South Africa have arrived at a “common position” on the situation in these countries in West Asia, sources said. The issue became tricky after India recently voted with the Western powers on Syria at the United Nations Security Council, while China and Russia had blocked a consensus.

While not disclosing the exact formulation, the sources said there will be a “balanced and nuanced” position on the West Asian region, which is being said to be “the other view”. “There is a lot of congruence between the BRICS countries on this issue,” sources said.
