In a dramatic turn of events, a 26-year-old man, who married a girl from Rewari in Haryana a few months ago against the wishes of her parents, claimed his wife had been “kidnapped” by her father.
Rajinder Satlani, who hails from Uttrakhand, told the police that he had married 19-year-old Sangeeta in July when he worked in a factory in Rewari. The couple had eloped to escape the wrath of the girl’s parents who were opposed to the marriage.
According to Rajinder, who is now working in a factory in Roorkie, Sangeeta’s father Ranbir Yadav had lodged a complaint against him in Rewari, alleging that he had abducted his daughter.
“The two families had recently reached a compromise and Yadav had agreed to quash the court case. Therefore, he reportedly arrived in Chandigarh on Monday and stayed with Rajinder’ father at a guesthouse in Sector 45 last night,” said Station House Officer of Sector-34 police station Udaypal Singh.
But before Sangeeta could record her statement, Rajinder alleged in his complaint, her father forcibly took her away this morning. Consequently, Satlani lodged an FIR against Yadav under Section 365 (kidnapping with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) of the IPC at the Sector 34 police station on Tuesday.
Udaypal said the complaint of the youth needed to be verified, which was possible only after speaking to the girl. “We will verify the details and only then will the merit of the case be clear,” he said.
