A 25-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her brother-in-law after she resisted his advances in New Ashok Nagar area of East Delhi on Friday.

Woman murdered
A 25-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her brother-in-law after she resisted his advances in New Ashok Nagar area of East Delhi on Friday. Police said Sonika was at home when her brother-in-law Ravi tried to molest her. She resisted his advances and hit him,after which Ravi stabbed her and fled the spot. “She was taken to Kailash Hospital,where she succumbed to injuries,” the police said. A case has been registered.

Liquor racket
Police said they have got further details on three persons running a liquor racket through a group on Facebook. Police said they received information that vehicles carrying illicit liquor will pass through Munirka. Three vehicles — an Esteem,an Indica and an Ambassador — were stopped. The police seized the vehicles and apprehended the drivers. Two hundred and ninety four bottles of foreign liquor and 400 cans of imported beer were seized. The gang,running their operations from a flat in Saket,used two cabs for the operation.

Non-compliant schools
As many as 139 private schools in the city have not complied fully with the government’s order to give free education to 20 per cent of children from weaker sections. Minister of State for HRD D Purandeshwari told Rajya Sabha: “The Delhi government has reported that out of 390 schools given land at concessional rates,139 have partially complied with it.” One school has been derecognised

Student beaten up
A 20-year-old student of Kirori Mal College,Delhi University,was beaten up by members of a rival faction in the college canteen at 6.30 pm on Friday. The victim,Yudhistir Chaudhary was taken to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital,and later shifted to a private hospital. A case has been registered at the Maurice Nagar police station.

Noida exec attacked
Around 20 employees attacked the office of an export company in Noida on Friday. The assailants also damaged a dozen cars and beat up the general manager of Ishman International Export over low wages.

‘No child labour’ logo
The government kickstarted its campaign against child labour and exploitation by releasing a ‘No child labour’ logo on Friday. Dikshit appealed to all employers to desist from employing children and put up this logo at their workplace. A website to keep track of information on children separated from their families and living in various government children’s homes has also been launched.

Pension for orphans
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has announced that orphaned minors in the Capital will be able to avail benefits of the civic agency’s pension scheme from now on. The civic body’s Standing Committee approved the proposal on Thursday. It will now offer a financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per head,per month,to orphans below 18.
