  • Australia fined for slow over rate

Mohali: Australia have been fined for slow over-rate during the fourth one-dayer against India. Match referee Chris Broad imposed the fine after Ricky Ponting’s side was ruled to be two overs short of its target at the end of the match, which Australia won by 24 runs. Ponting has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee while the other players received 10 per cent fines.

Didn’t feel 250 would be enough: Ponting

Mohali: Relieved after the series-levelling win, Australia captain Ricky Ponting said he was afraid that 250-run may not be enough but his bowlers made it possible. “It was a good win but I thought we left out some 30-40 runs. We lost wickets at crucial moments and 250 seemed a little short. But our bowlers did a great job,” Ponting said after the match.

Pak ministry seeks review of players’ contracts

Karachi: Pakistan’s sports ministry has asked the PCB to review the central contracts to cricketers as it feels some players are drawing unfair financial benefits through the contracts. “The biggest objection raised by the ministry is that many players who have been given central contracts are also employed in senior and lucrative positions with other banks and organisations which is against Pakistan service rules,” a ministry source said.

Misbah allowed to play in Bangladesh

Karachi: Pakistan batsman Misbah-ul-Haq has been allowed to take a two-week break from first-class competition to play in Bangladesh. Misbah will leave on November 8 and play 5-6 one-day games for the Abhani Sports club in the premier league tournament of Bangladesh. “We have made an exception as Misbah has already appeared in four rounds of Qaid Trophy and when he returns he will be able to play in two more matches,” an official said.
