'Dogs which have bitten can be killed'

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered extermination of dogs which have mauled or bitten children or adults. A PIL filed on this issue seeked compensation for those bitten or mauled by stray dogs.

JAMMU: The right arm of a nine-year-old girl suffered a fracture after she was allegedly caned by a teacher for coming late to school in Rajouri district. The father of the Class IV student alleged his daughter was beaten with a wooden stick on Thursday.

Abdul Majeed deported, held

Abdul Majeed, an accused in the fake currency case of 2008, was arrested on Friday by the NIA following his deportation from Dubai. As The Indian Express had reported, the alleged Dawood Ibrahim aide had been detained in Dubai. He was picked up from Nedumbassery airport early Friday and produced before the NIA special court here, which remanded him to seven days' custody.

Tahir Merchant alias Tahir Taklya, a close ally of Dawood Ibrahim and an accused in the 1993 Mumbai blast, is the main accused in the case. Tahir was the main link in distributing fake currency notes for extremist activities in India, especially Kerala. According to the NIA, the currency was printed in Pakistan and distributed to India via Abu Dhabi. Three of Majeed's accomplices, who had come to receive him at the airport, were also arrested.
