Common PG med admission test starts

NEW DELHI: The first ever postgraduate common medical entrance test, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG), organised by the National Board of Examinations started on Friday. Over 95,000 candidates have registered to take the computer-based test to be conducted over 11 days at 51 test centres across 33 cities. Previously, institutions across the country conducted the entrance tests individually.

Case lodged against Ramdev Yogapeeth

DEHRA DUN: A case has been lodged against yoga guru-turned-activist Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Yogapeeth by the Haridwar food safety officer, Yogendra Pandey, on Friday. According to Pandey, Patanjali Yogapeeth is charged with violation of section 52 (misbranded) and 53 (misleading information about product) of the Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006. He said the complaint was lodged on the basis of the analysis report of the food samples.

SC stays direction on Bhopal waste

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Friday stayed its direction to Centre and Madhya Pradesh government to dispose toxic waste lying around now-defunct Union Carbide factory within 6 months from its judgement in August. It emphasised that the toxic waste be disposed of at the earliest since it is hazardous to health.

IFFI director's laptop goes missing

PANAJI: A laptop belonging to festival director Shanka Mohan was stolen from the venue of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which entered its third day on Friday. The laptop apparently went missing on Wednesday night following which a police complaint was lodged. The role of a security guard in the theft is under suspicion as he also went missing the same night.

HC dismisses plea for CBI probe in VS case

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday dismissed a petition seeking a CBI probe into the land assignment case against Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan. One Jijo Mathew claimed in his petition that there has been 'no fair or impartial' probe so far and the present probe was 'highly biased'. The bench observed that the request of the petitioner cannot be considered at this stage and that it lacked merit.
