Water supply staff do a Sholay
Patiala:
Several members of the Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Muster-Roll Employees Union on Tuesday enacted a scene straight out of the blockbuster Sholay by threatening to jump off a water tank tower if their demands were not met. The striking employees were demanding the release of their colleagues arrested by Lambi police and housed in Ferozepur Jail.

State Govt to probe Bathinda NREGA scam
Bathinda:

12 Indian prisoners released from Pakistan
Amritsar:
Twelve Indian prisoners,mostly fishermen,walked home free from Pakistan on Tuesday after they were released from various jails there. They were arrested by the Pakistan Mariners while fishing in the Arabian Sea when they inadvertently entered Pakistani territorial waters.

Energy conservation award
Patiala:
Punjab’s Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant,Lehra Mohabbat,on Tuesday won the national award for energy conservation. Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde presented the award to Punjab Power Corporation’s CMD K D Chaudhri in New Delhi. Rural health: GOI team to visit Punjab today

Central team to check NRHM progress
Ludhiana:
A Central team will visit Punjab on Wednesday to evaluate the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme. According to sources,“The team will visit any four districts and check the functioning of this scheme. The team will include the Union joint secretary (health) and mission directors of any two states.”

RTI Activists’ Federation raps CIC
Chandigarh:
Terming Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) R I Singh’s order on penalties “deplorable”,the RTI Activists’ Federation,Punjab,said on Tuesday that it reflected a typical bureaucratic mindset. Federation president H C Arora said that they would again press for their demand to the government that former IAS officers should not be appointed information commissioners.

Captain condemns Puri’s frisking in US
Chandigarh:
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday condemned the frisking of India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Hardeep Puri in the US. Amarinder maintained that it was highly condemnable that a senior diplomat from India had been subjected to frisking and a pat-down search and even asked to remove his turban. “Asking Puri,a Sikh,to remove his turban is highly condemnable and unacceptable,” he said.
