Parents murder daughter
Sangrur:A man and woman along with four others were booked for murder of their daughter Gurdeep Kaur (19) late on Thursday. The accused family members cremated her in a hurry under cover of darkness at their village cremation ground at Husainpur under Sandaurh police station near Malerkotla after committing heinous crime, police said. The father Bahadar Singh and mother Surinder Kaur along with uncles Harnek Singh and Jagtar Singh besides deceased cousins Gurdeep Singh and Jaspal Singh beat the girl to death. SP(D) Paramjit Singh Goraya ruled out the possibility of honour killing and said the family members murdered her because they thought she was under the influence of ghosts. The SP said the Sandaurh police have registered a case of murder and destroying of the evidence.
Mines auction: Punjab nets Rs 133 cr
Chandigarh:The Punjab government has earned a record revenue of Rs 133.33 crore against the reserve price of Rs 3.58 crore from the auction of mines of 14 quarries of district Hoshiarpur held , Industry Minister Anil Joshi said on Friday. He said that it has been decided to accept all the highest bids and a letter of acceptance would be sent to respective General Manager-cum-Mining Officers soon..
Man held in minor girl abduction case
Amritsar:Batala police Friday arrested one Bolu (25) in case pertaining to the abduction of a minor girl. SSP Tulsi Ram said a case of abduction was registered against Bolu on January 6. "He was arrested Friday from Majitha. The girl has been handed over to her parents," Ram said.
Youth assaults girl, brother, arrested
Jalandhar:The police Friday arrested a youth, identified as Rahul Thaper alias Gogga, a resident of Basti area, for attacking a girl and her brother. Assistant Commissioner of Police(West) RPS Sandhu said Gogga slapped the girl and her brother after the latter protested against the obscene remarks that he had passed. Gogga had been harassing the girls for past several days.
