Briefly State: 5 trawlers seized for straying into Bangla waters

Kakdwip: Five trawlers of West Bengal with about 70 fishermen on board have been seized for straying into the Bangladesh territory while fishing in Sunderbans area during a storm on November 3, said Minister of State for Fisheries Subrata Saha on Tuesday. The minister got the information from Sunderbans Matso Samobay Samity who received a call from the detained fishermen. "We are taking up the issue with the Ministry of External Affairs for the early release of the fishermen.

Common entrance test for colleges in June first week

KOLKATA: West Bengal Higher Education Council (WBHEC) on Tuesday decided to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) for undergraduate-level courses in the first week of June next year. A 13-member committee, comprising the chairman of the council along with teachers from various universities has been formed to frame the syllabus of the CET. Abhijeet Chakraborty, Vice-Chairman, WBHEC said that during admission, 50 per cent of the CET score and 50 per cent of the boards score will be taken into account. The recommendations of the committee will be submitted to the state government soon for its approval, Chakraborty added. The College Service Commission has been given the task of conducting the examination.

Now, appraisal forms for teachers

KOLKATA: The government has come up with appraisal forms to be filled up by school teachers twice a year. After the meeting with the academic expert committee for school education, Education Minister Bratya Basu said: "Teachers will have to mention details of the academic hours in a week, methodology adopted in teaching, the reason of absence if any, seminars and workshops attended, their publications." Basu said. Meanwhile, the department has abolished the unit test system in schools and retained the annual examination. However, evaluation of the students' performances will be made throughout the year.
