Minor abducted and raped in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur:A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped in Badla village here, following which a man was arrested, police said Friday. The incident occurred on Thursday when the victim, a student of Class 11, was abducted at knife point by the accused, Pawan Kumar, from a bus stand at Adda Khanura, they said. The accused took the minor to Badla village where he allegedly raped her in a tubewell room. Kumar has been arrested under various sections of the IPC, Sub-Inspector Karnail Singh, Station House Officer of Mehtiana police station said.
Prisoners get cops drunk, escape from custody
Amritsar:Two undertrial prisoners, both brothers and accused in a rape and murder case, escaped from the police custody late on Thursday after offering liquor to the personnel who were accompanying them to jail from a court hearing in Hoshiarpur. Lakha Singh and Jassa Singh asked the police officials to stop the vehicle near Jandiala to buy cigarettes and fled, Amritsar (Rural) SSP Preetpaul Singh Virk said. Head constables Hardeep Singh, Ranjit Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and driver Amrik Singh have been suspended and a case registered against them, Virk added.
First commandant of STC, Col Gill passes away at age of 83
Jalandhar:Colonel (Retd) Ajit Singh Gill, the first commandant of the Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) at Kharkan in Hoshiarpur, passed away late on Thursday at the age of 83. He served the STC from May 21, 1979 to July 1, 1982. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.
Woman constable commits suicide, was 'depressed'
Ludhiana:A woman head constable in Punjab Police allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from an iron grille in Samrala police station, police said Friday. Head constable identified as Amarjit Kaur (50) took the extreme step late on Thursday. A magisterial enquiry had been ordered into the incident, Khanna SSP Jatinder Singh Aulakh, who visited the spot, said. According to preliminary investigations, Kaur was under depression, he added. The deceased is survived by her husband and two children.
