5 policemen, 7 others injured in group clash in Nadia
Krishnanagar:Twelve persons, including five police personnel, were injured in a clash between two groups at Ghoragachha in Nadia district over dispute on shifting the site of a 50-year old fair. The police personnel were injured, two of them seriously, as they tried to stop brickbatting between the two groups over shifting the place of the site where the fair was being held for past several years, police said. A police jeep was also damaged by the mob which gheraoed the cops till reinforcements arrived. Eight persons, including the two injured cops, had to be shifted to the JNM Hospital, Kalyani while the rest were treated at local health centre, police said.
Bangla devotees attend annual Urs festival
Midnapore:More than 1,900 devotees from Bangladesh have come to West Midnapore district in a special train to attend an annual Urs festival here. The devotees who reached Midnapore Saturday night from Dhaka's Rajbari station and attended the Urs at Joda masjid. Thousands of people assemble here each year from different parts of the country to take part in the festival.
Two African nationals arrested with fake notes
Kolkata:Two African nationals were arrested with fake currency notes having a face value of Rs 60,000 by the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata police, sources said on Sunday. Prince Momo of Sierra Leone and Theophilus Luk Spirkile of Liberia were arrested Saturday night with the fake currency notes from New Market area of the city, a statement by STF said.
