Alexandria: Egypt has detained 22 women members of the Muslim Brotherhood,a security official said Friday,fuelling tensions days before deposed President Mohammed Morsi and 14 other leaders of the Islamist group go on trial. Nasser al-Abd,a senior security official in Alexandria,said the charges against the women include using force to disrupt traffic during protests,membership of an outlawed group and distributing illegal leaflets. A lawyer representing the suspects said they were aged between 15 and 25. They were detained Thursday. reuters

Four Indian-Americans indicted for $10 mn fraud

Washington: Four Indian-Americans have been indicted on charges of fraud of over $10 million while selling 26 gas stations spread across the US states of Illinois,Iowa,Nebraska and Wisconsin. The 23-count indictment by a federal grand jury was unsealed Thursday at a Chicago court after the arrest of 34-year-old Charanpal Ghuman. The other three indicted are Aga Khan,Akash Brahmbhatt and Shital Mehta. PTI

Indian woman stabbed to death in Dubai

Dubai: An Indian woman bus conductor was stabbed to death allegedly by her husband,who later tried to commit suicide by cutting his wrist,a media report said here Friday. Sonia,who was in her 30s,hailing from Kerala,was stabbed five times on the chest and other body parts by her estranged husband Ranjith in Al Garhoud Thursday. PTI

Indian doc gets 2 yrs’ jail for healthcare fraud in US

New York: An Indian doctor has been sentenced to over two years in prison for submitting false medical insurance claims for services that he had not provided. Amar Nath Bhandary,53,from Oklahoma was also fined $20,000. PTI
