Suicide bombers kill 10 in Nigeria

JALINGO: Two motorcycle-riding suicide bombers drove into a convoy carrying a top police official in northeast Nigeria on Monday,detonating their explosives and killing at least 10 people,authorities said. The attack targeted police commissioner Mamman Sule. The bombers missed injuring Sule but the explosives caused massive damage at a busy roadside market,they added.

Woman convicted of war crimes in Bosnia

SARAJEVO: A former Bosnian Muslim soldier on Monday became the first woman to be convicted of war crimes by a local court after admitting killing Croats civilians during the 1992-95 war. Rasema Handanovic participated with other members of her unit in the executions of three civilians and three soldiers. The tribunal sentences her to five-and-a-half years in jail, war crimes court judge Jasmina Kosovic said.

Cops kill 24 criminals in Karachi locality

Karachi: Almost 24 suspected criminals have been killed in an ongoing police operation in the densely populated,impoverished and troubled neighbourhood of Lyari in Karachi that entered its fourth day Monday. The police said they have arrested 20 criminals involved in the gangwar,some with bounties on their head. Lyari has in the last few years been taken over by different criminal gangs that are said to be patronised by politicians.

Clashes on,Sudan declares emergency

KHARTOUM: Sudan has declared a state of emergency along much of its border with South Sudan as the momentum toward all-out war continues to build after weeks of clashes. President Omar al-Bashir’s decree gives authorities in the border areas wide powers to make arrests and set up special courts. It was issued a day after Sudan detained three foreigners and accused them of spying for South Sudan.

Pak: Widow of Davis shooting victim killed

LAHORE: The widow of Faizan Haider,a Pakistani shot dead by CIA contractor Raymond Davis,was Monday killed along with her mother in Lahore following a family dispute over the blood money and her desire to remarry,police said. Zehra,23,and her mother Nabeela were killed by her father Shehzad Butt,who was opposed to her decision to re-marry as he feared that the compensation the family had received from Davis might go to Zehra’s new husband.
