A group of Sikhs on Monday staged an agitation in protest against the alleged sacrilege reported from the Fakharpur area of Bahraich district. Station Officer of the Fakharpur police station V B Singh said: “The agitators blocked roads demanding that NSA be invoked against the accused. After being assured that their demands will be met,the agitators called off their protests.” The police had yesterday arrested three persons — Baba Ram Ujagar Das,Albel and his son Lallan—¿ for ‘disrespecting’ holy books. They were produced before court and sent to jail today.

For frivolous PIL against PM,man to pay Rs 10,000
The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on one Major SN Tripathi for moving a “baseless” PIL challenging the appointment of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Quashing the PIL,the Bench comprising Justices

S P Mehrotra and Anil Kumar observed that “such baseless PILs result in wastage of precious time of the court”. They said the PIL appeared to have been filed for “cheap publicity”. Tripathi had challenged the PM’s appointment on grounds that he allegedly failed to take oath at the stipulated time.

RSS chief Bhagwat to visit Lucknow in Jan
The Sarsanghchalak of Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS),Mohan Bhagwat,will be on a two day visit to the state capital on January 9 and 10. This is his first visit after becoming the RSS chief. According to official information,Bhagwat will arrive in Lucknow on January 9 and attend a host of meetings with the sangh workers. On January 10,he will address an open meeting at the Saraswati Shishu Mandir campus in Nirala Nagar.

Minority colleges to continue with BEd
The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Monday allowed the minority colleges to continue with the BEd session 2009-10,which had earlier been declared as ‘zero session’ by the state government. Hearing a petition filed by St Andrews College,Gorakhpur,the Bench comprising Justices Pradeep Kant and Ritu Raj Awasthi ruled that the “order is not applicable on a minority institution”. The state government,through an order on October 15,2009,had declared a zero session for BEd in 2009-10. The petitioner claimed that the order did not apply to minority colleges which were governed by special provisions.
