The cast of the movie Fukrey comprises a relatively new ensemble. Just like the movie that is about four youngsters who want to make it big,its four lead actors have their hopes set on it to hit the mark. Actor Pulkit Samrat, known as the famous Lakshya Virani from television, failed to impress the box office with his movie Bittoo Boss. Similarly,Ali Fazal, who had a promising start with 3 Idiots, did not make a mark with the movie Always Kabhi Kabhi. Even for Manjot Singh of Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! fame, the roles he bagged did not do much justice to his talent. Along with them is newbie Varun Sharma, who debuts with the movie.
The trailer of Fukrey promises to be a fun-filled movie. The movie, produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba,is set to release on June 14. The cast, just back from a promotional trip, seems a little tired. But that does not hide their excitement. Very comfortable in each others presence, they share some laughs and stories about the maddest roller-coaster ride of their life.
Relatively new to the industry, the actors were excited about the project from the beginning. Manjot says the title of the movie did it for him. Im from Delhi, and I knew what fukrey means a slang for someone who is jobless or directionless. I knew it would be a fun film, he says. In the film,Hunny (Samrat) and Choocha (Sharma),who are both jobless, discover that the latter has a gift that can help them win the lottery every time they attempt. Using this to make it big, they rope in Lali (Manjot) and Zafar (Fazal). The four get into a lot of trouble and are bullied around by the woman gangster Bholi Punjaban played by Richa Chadda.
According to Fazal, the four characters are everyday people one meets in a college or school. Sharma says,Im sure the audience will look at these characters and their fukreypanthi and say,Arre, yeh toh maine bhi kiya hain. Most of the crazy things that these characters do,I have done in life too. Fazal instantly quips,Yeah,I suppose he likes dressing like a peacock and have dogs chase him around. This makes the cast burst into laughter. Sharma obliges by narrating a scene where he was in a peacock costume and chased by eight dogs. The actors seem to have stuck to the general mood of the movie and have their share of fun on the sets. We had dogs, horses, leopards and peacocks the whole package. Once Varun fell sick and kept us up all night. Actually,he was sick for half an hour but wouldnt let us sleep. The next day,we had a scene where the both of us were supposed to ride horses. His horse refused to budge. I was exhausted from the previous night and dozed off. I remember waking up startled, when someone yelled Cut!. Thats the final scene in the movie, says Sharma.
Such fun moments on the sets have been captured in five behind the scene movies, complete with scripts. They unanimously agree that having done it all in the movie from being chased by dogs,to running amok on the streets of Delhi, where the movie is based they will never be embarrassed by anything stupid they do in life.
Fazal says,Everyone has a little craziness in them, some more than others. You just need to bring it out in them.
