Bring Saeed,other 26/11 accused to justice: US to Pak

The US said it was checking the veracity of Musharraf's admission that Pakistan had diverted funds provided for combating terror,against India.

Terming as “serious” Pervez Musharraf’s remarks,the US on Thursday said it was checking the veracity of his admission that Pakistan had diverted against India funds provided for combating terror.

“The US takes these allegations very seriously…We will find veracity of these allegations,” US Ambassador Timothy J Roemer told reporters when asked about Musharraf’s remark that the US anti-terror funds to Pakistan were diverted to strengthen its defences against India.

“The allegations have been made by a former official. He is currently a private citizen,” he said.

Endorsing India’s view that 26/11 terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed and five other suspects be brought to justice,he said Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba posed a “regional and global” threat.

“LeT is a regional and global threat to both US and India,and Washington is committed to pursue and defeat LeT and other terror outfits,” he said.

“There are five or six 26/11 suspects held in Pakistan. It is imperative that they,including Hafiz Saeed,are brought to justice,” Roemer said.

Pointing to the threat from LeT,al Qaeda and Taliban ’emanating from that part of the world’,Roemer expressed the US government’s resolve to “take on this common threat”.
