  • With the BJP leadership throwing its weight behind him, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Wednesday appeared confident of continuing in office although the rebellion against him showed no signs of ending. The Chief Minister said he would meet the Reddy brothers, who have demanded a leadership change in the state, as also the top leadership on Thursday in a bid to resolve the crisis.

Summoned by the party leadership, Yeddyurappa arrived here Wednesday evening. He met senior leader Venkaiah Naidu and is scheduled to meet other leaders, including Sushma Swaraj, to break the deadlock. But both the Chief Minister and his close supporters have signaled that they were not ready for a leadership change, putting pressure on the leadership which is said to be working out a formula.

“I am 100 per cent confident. I am going to complete five years,” Yeddyurappa said when asked whether he was confident of remaining the Chief Minister. He pointed out that the party leadership has already made it clear there will not be any leadership change.

Senior party leader Arun Jaitley, however, took a cautious line and said “nothing can be said as of now as talks are on”.

Exuding confidence, the Chief Minister said he would also meet the Prime Minister on Thursday to invite him for the foundation laying ceremony of a housing scheme being implemented by the state for flood-hit people of the northern districts.

He said he would also meet Tourism Minister Janardhan Reddy and his brother and Revenue Minister Karunakara Reddy on Thursday. “We will find an amicable solution to the problem,” he said. The Reddy brothers, however, are not relenting. Sources said Janardhan Reddy held several rounds of talks with Swaraj on Tuesday and Wednesday and is said to be adamant on their demand for the Chief Minister’s removal.

What a shameBy: Mohan | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward A Government being taken hostage by the business tycoons and the CM begging before them to let him hold the reins of power. The Central leaders who are already facing indignation advising the CM to cohabit with the Reddys for his own survival and thereby letting the Reddys to have a free run in the State to further their business interest. The BJP deserves this because it is they who encouraged the Reddys and used them for winning the election. After being sworn in, to secure their majority, they used the Reddys to wean away opposition MLAs to walk over even losing their post by bribing them with money and MLA seat in the bye elections this they called as operation lotus. In all, Democracy has plummeted to its lowest depths and the sinners are the BJP, Reddys who have taken the people of Karnataka for a ride to seek their own pleasure.
YEDDY's JOKEBy: Baskar | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward This is the power hungry Yeddy speaking before meeting Central Leaders. "I will follow whatever the Central High Command says and they have already made very clear that I will not be removed". So, in essence he is saying that he will follow the High Command as they have said that he will not be changed. This power hungry Yeddy will do anything for power and even cohabit with the JDS once again. Afterall, this was the man who threatened to split BJP if they do not align with the JDS and thereby he made the Deputy Chief Minister. Such is the power hungry ambitions of this man. This man's wife death is also mysterious and they call it suicide when infact she was murdered. God only knows the truth as to how his wife dead and now this man has foisted his own darling as Minister which has become the bone of contention with the Reddys.
Karnataka Comedy ShowBy: anand prakash | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I am surprised that the chaddiwala sympathisers have not yet come up with an explanation that Sonia under instructions from Rome is formenting trouble in Karnataka! I have not given up yet. I am certain some ludricous insinuation will crop up in their creative mind before the day is out
WELL SAIDBy: R Sundar | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Congress has totally kept aloof of this whole drama. Only if they had even evinced some interest, the Yeddy Government would have been history. But, they are not after power and wanted Yeddy to remain in power to spoil his name in Office so that the next time around, the people of Karnataka will never vote for the BJP for generations to come.
Never Mind By: GK RAJ | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Even at the cost of falling Govt CM should not yield to any black mailing. We will elect again good Governments without any pressures
Shame on BJPBy: Manish | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I really fell pity for BJP. This was the time show the country that they have got some character no MLA with money can hold the government to ransom to meet their brazen and shameless demands. This is further going to destroy BJP and i don't see them coming back to power after BSY govt somehow completes its term. BSY has goodwill among public and BJP has failed again this time to read popular public mood.God save the BJP
