Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday met yet another condition set by the rebel Reddy group from Bellary for ending the 14-day stand-off by undoing the transfer of key officials from two mining districts of the influential brothers.
Within a fortnight of their transfer out of Bellary, ostensibly for participating in a flood relief programme of the Reddys — held in defiance of the Chief Minister on October 28 — IAS officer B Shivappa and IPS officer Seemanth Kumar Singh have been posted back.
Within a month of his transfer out of the neighbouring Gadag district, ostensibly for failing to effectively implement flood relief work, IAS officer N V Prasad has also been posted back to the district.
All three officials are considered to be the Reddy group's pick for the two districts. Their reinstatement is believed to have been among the conditions laid down by the Reddy brothers to end a two-week mutiny against Yeddyurappa’s leadership that threatened to bring down the first BJP government in south India.
As part of the deal with the Reddy group, Yeddyurappa has already transferred out his Principal Secretary V P Baligar and dropped his confidante Rural Development Minister Shobha Karandlaje whose heads were sought by the rebels.
Yeddyurappa ordered the October 28 transfer of four officers considered close to Revenue Minister G Karunakar Reddy, Tourism Minister G Janardhan Reddy and Health Minister B Sreeramulu, all of whom have interests in the mining business in the Bellary region, after the Reddy group defied the Chief Minister to kick off flood relief work in Bellary.
