After being in the election mode for almost 15 months, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has shifted gear. For the next few months now, he will go around the world to attract investments in preparation for the 2010 global investors’ meet in the state.
Yeddyurappa headed to China on Tuesday for a five-day trip with a large contingent. In October, he is slated to visit the United States. Road shows for Japan and the UAE are on the cards, too.
The Chief Minister of the first BJP government in the south set the ball rolling on Monday during a meeting with US consul general Andrew T Simkin in Chennai when he sought the support of officials in facilitating meetings during his visit. “I am inviting investments on the promise of providing support better than any other destination,” Yeddyurappa said after the meeting.
The global investors’ meet is being organised after a gap of two years and Union External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, whose tenure as Karnataka CM saw the first investors’ meet in the state, is helping open foreign doors for the 2010 event, according to officials in the state government.
In China, the CM’s delegation will hold meetings with industrial representatives and stage road shows in Beijing and Shanghai, Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani said.
