A bogey has been raised about Chinese aggression towards India, said Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday.
This must be stopped for the sake of prosperity in the relationship of the two countries, he said at a seminar to celebrate 60 years of the Chinese revolution at the CPI-M’s Kolkata district committee headquarters.
“This is all nonsense,” he said.
“The Indian government has denied it, so has the Chinese government. So why this hue and cry? It is nothing but some media and rightist groups like RSS backed by the USA raising the spectre. We condemn it.”
Giving an account of the Chinese revolution, Bhattacharjee, a CPM Politburo member, said India must work with China and Russia to build a strong force that can take on the US.
“After the demise of the Soviet Union and the East European countries, the US has emerged as an unchallenged power. It is India, China and Russia who can stand in the way of American hegemony,” Bhattacharjee said.
The CPI-M is not going to follow the Chinese model, but it will evolve an Indian model so far as the revolution in India is concerned.
“We have watched with respect and astonishment the rise of China as an economic and military power,” he said. “But we cannot follow that model in bringing about revolution in our country. We will have to evolve our own model that will be built on our experiences and past mistakes.”
