Shah Rukh Khan might be embarrassed about his smoking habit and meekly admit so in face of the regular onslaught from Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss.
But not so Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
A day after Ramadoss admitted to sending a letter to the chief minister asking him to kick the butt, Bhattacharjee kept his perfect nonchalance in the face of amused media queries. And his officials flatly denied that the incident ever took place.
On Wednesday, Bhattacharjee refused to comment when reporters, at the fag end of a media conference, asked him about Ramadoss’s letter.
“No comments,” was all he said and got up, ending the press meet on Singur issue abruptly. And as he was about to leave, he turned back and quipped: “I am now concerned with cars.”
Officials in the Writers’ Buildings denied that the chief minister got any mail from Ramadoss.
“The CM has not received any such letter. Moreover, smoking is not a big issue either,” an official told The Indian Express.
Environmentalists, though, rallied behind Ramadoss, alleging that the chief minister has a habit of flouting environment laws.
“The chief minister is spoiling his health. And he smokes at the Writers’ Buildings, which has been declared a no-smoking zone by his government,” said environmentalist Subhas Dutta.
