  • Pranab mukherjee
Mukherjee underlined the constraints before the Govt due to global recession in implementing all the poll promises.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday indicated that though the thrust of the Budget to be presented by him in the Lok Sabha on July 6 would be the aam aadmi, in accordance with the poll promises made by the Congress, it might not be possible to address all the issues right now due to the ongoing economic recession. Mukherjee hinted at this at a closed-door meeting along with senior party leaders at the AICC headquarters to solicit their views for the General Budget 2009-10.

AICC general secretaries, CWC members and other senior leaders of the party impressed upon the Finance Minister the need to take the aam aadmi agenda of the party forward and placed suggestions like extending loan to farmers at three per cent interest and interest-free loans for higher studies. Senior Congress leaders stressed the fact that farmers and the youth won the election for the party and so, the Budget should address their issues.

Mukherjee, according to sources, underlined the constraints before the Government due to the global economic recession in implementing all the promises. “In the past, we were looking upwards, but now we are looking downward,” he is said to have remarked, referring to the economic recession, according to sources.

He, however, sought to assure the Congress leaders that the promises made by the party would be addressed in a phased manner, as the mandate was for a stable five-year government. “It may not be possible to address all the issues this year, but it will be taken up in the years to come,” Mukherjee is learnt to have declared. He also underlined that his approach in preparing the Budget would be “pragmatic” and that he would not be driven by any particular theory.

Aam admi taken for a ride By: Anil | 16-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Yet another budget for aam admi. From "garibi hatao" to the 21st century slogan of aam aadmi, and the poverty remains immovable in India. Congress wallas, your policies on economics have been a disaster. Waited for 20 years after China opened its economy, while Congress continued its love affair with failed socilaist policies that gave us 2 % "hindu" growth, persisted with corrupt licence raj, not doing anything about labour laws and on and on. Now you are crowding out the private sector through huge fiscal deficits. Where are the thirty something brilliant economists and entrepreneurs of India? Also crowded out by the "one family" party rulers, who persist in their sychophantic 60 years old nonsense.
OPEN REAL COMPETITION SHUN HIDDEN PROTECTION.By: Ashim kumar Chatterjee | 16-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Fresh from the recent elections, UPA II is indeed under pressure to present as popular a budget as possible. This means basically three things. a. Controlling and reversing rise in consumer price daily use commodities. b. Generation of employment. c. Tax sops to Indian middle class. Now these three objects are often opposed to each other and can be managed by fiscal discipline and management of revenue collection. Given the tendencies of successive governments to accomodate the ineffeciencies of Indian private sector, budget won't be radically different. however, it would suffice to send a message to India INC. that they must realistically expect govt. support to commensurate their contribution in infrastructure projects, which main tool in the hand of government both for generation of demand for goods and services and employment. Government needs to open up infrastructure and all employment generative sectors to open competition for FDI on terms exactly similar to Indians
Waiver of loan was cleaning sin and nothing to be proud ofBy: arun kumar | 16-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Waiver, (MAFI)- were our farmers criminals or beggars needed MAFI from LORDS, has the cause why they sunk in debts removed? If they sunk then all previous ministries must take blame on themselves – particularly Congress who is preparing another aam aadmi budget. Budget has become a political document where each tries to get maximum out of exchequer not caring will they leave any thing for future generations. We could not open schools
does budget effect common man?By: arun kumar | 16-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward For last so many years, each FM is doing gimmick - to please working classes Excise duties are increased on 4 wheelers, air-conditioners, choclates, under pretext that let haves pay little more. The answer on tax sunsidies from the president of a Central Asian Country was as follows - does a common man need street light?, clean roads? health, water and electricity? schools and kidergardens? and if the ansewer is YES then every body has to pay without any discrimination, no tax subsidy. They have progressed, no longer poor. Compare this attitude with our's - subsidy, free passes, free food, housing and what not? has it helped common man? NO because nothing reaches the targeted class.so despense with the attitude of being a beggar - pay and demand your services - because beggars can never be chosers - if the common man wants quality services he has to be prepared to pay - if not you live on lip service of leaders and be ready to run abroad for a better life, even if you sweep toilet there.
