Burglars break into 16 flats in Wakad,gold worth Rs 18 lakh stolen

The burglars broke open the locks with the help of a metal tool and entered the apartments. The three societies that have been attacked are Iceland,Maxima and Kasapalli,the police said.

On Tuesday evening,six break-ins were reported from Maxima housing society,and four each were from Iceland and Kasapalli societies. On Wednesday morning,two more burglaries were reported from the Maxima society after the occupants of the two apartments returned home in the morning.

Shivprasad Marotrao Kenche,29,one of residents whose apartment in Maxima society was robbed,has registered a complaint with the Hinjewadi police.

Sub Inspector N J Jagdale who is investigating the case said prima facie,it appears,to be a job of a well-organised gang. “In almost 80 to 90 per cent of the families in these societies,both husband and wife are out from 10 am to 5 pm for job. The burglars have taken the advantage of this fact. The incident came to light after some of the residents returned home in the evening to find the door-locks broken. We are looking for the burglars but yet to find any clue,” Jagdale said.

He said there were only four guards on duty for the over 300 flats in the Maxima Society. There were no CCTV cameras in the lift or the gate. “We are now relying on the CCTV camera footage at the commercial establishments close to these buildings,” said Jagdale.
