Bush also wanted India and the US to work together to win the war on terror in Afghanistan.

Former US President George W Bush on Saturday favoured a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) seat for India, saying it has "arrived" as a strong democratic country in the world.

He also wanted India and the US to work together to win the war on terror in Afghanistan to bring peace and stability in the region.

"We must see the possibility of a seat for India in the United Nations Security Council," Bush said, speaking at a summit.

"India has arrived as a strong democratic country in the world. It is a tolerant, peaceful and multi-religious democracy," he said.

Bush, who visited India in 2006 when the two sides chartered out the road map for further strengthening Indo-US strategic partnership, said the two countries shared the same values of freedom and democracy.

On Afghanistan, he said, "America and India must work together to win the war in Afghanistan. The mission in Afghanistan has been long and difficult and costly. I believe it is necessary for stability and peace."

He wholeheartedly agreed with US President Barack Obama that the US-India relations were not only one of the most important ties in the world, but they should also be one of the best.

But he cautioned that it would not happen automatically and the two nations would have to make important choices, including cooperation in the war in Afghanistan.

"The Taliban, Al Qaida and their extremist allies are trying to take over Afghanistan again. If they would have safe havens, the Afghan people, particularly women, would face a return to brutality. The region and the world would face serious threats," Bush warned.

5 DECADES PASSED AWAY UN LACKING DIRECT REPRESENTATION FROM 1 BILLION PEOPLE- SHAME TO UN COUNCILBy: Kumar | 01-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Unfortunately nobody feels ashamed for not giving a Permanent membership to India in the UN council, including the Secretary General. If India is not a permanent members means it lacks direct representation from billion people. 5 decades passed away, still thinking to give or not a permanent seat. The UN has become an association of big 5 gangsters. In the name of UN these so called big 5 countires can rob any nation for their gains, which finally will be endorsed by UN and its council. No accountability, responsibility for a million deaths happened in Iraq and the loss and agaony of innocent people is not taken care of. Shut down UN council, it has become a centre of corruption, with bunch of jokers / crooked fellows playing the lead role.

Humbug BushBy: Hero Vaz | 01-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Why does this useless, impotent fellow open his mouth worthlessly? No one is going to listen to him. Worse still, he is a humbug and an SOB. He never favoured India strongly, seriously or honestly at any time. He has also caused India's interests much harm by giving the Pakis uncontrolled aid, which has been used against India by Paki swine, Musharraf, and other Paki swine in the Paki army and ISI as well as by Paki terrorists with the knowledge of the Americans.
Keep a Tree in your heart and not BushBy: Jacob Varghese | 31-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Keep a "Green tree" in your heart and perhaps a singing bird will come. Keep a "Bush" in your heart and perhaps you will have sharp thorns and will get pricked easily. (Chinese Proverbs)
