A 46-year-old businessman from Gamdevi committed suicide by jumping from his 17th-floor residence at Set Minar Building on Tuesday morning. No suicide note was found from the house of the deceased. Police said that the family was not aware of any reason that might have instigated him to take the extreme step.
Thakker was a clearing and forwarding agent and was staying with his wife, an 18-year-old son and 21-year-old daughter.
“Around 5:30 am on Tuesday the watchman of the building heard a loud thud from the garage area. When he went to check the spot after some time, he found blood dropping from the garage’s roof,” said Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Diwadkar of the Gamdevi police station where the case has been registered.
According to Diwadkar, the watchman also saw Thakker’s hand hanging from the roof. He climbed up and found Thakker’s body lying in a pool of blood. “The watchman recognised Thakker and immediately rushed to his flat. Thakkar’s family members were sleeping at the at time,” said Diwadkar. Thakker was rushed to Jaslok Hospital where he was declared dead before admission. His body was later sent to J J Hospital for post mortem.
“Our officers too rushed to the spot after receiving a call from the residents. They searched the house and Thakker’s room but no suicide note was found. We have recorded the statements of the family members and they have told us that even they are shocked. They said that Thakker was happy and there were no fights within or outside the family that might have instigated him to take the drastic step,” said Diwadkar. Thakker’s family was unavailable for comment.
