Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh can’t help talking about his new-found friendship with Congress heir apparent Rahul Gandhi these days and is overjoyed at the setting up of the Congress-SP coordination committee, thus assuming the position the Left enjoyed once. He has also been also telling everyone that he is going to Kolkata to persuade Mamata Bannerjee to join hands with the Congress and then to Andhra Pradesh to pursue the options of bringing cine-star Chiranjeevi into the UPA camp. One of his recent missions took him to the doorsteps of JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda, who is in the Left bloc. The “humble farmer” kept avoiding the SP leader’s calls on his mobile, but the ever-resourceful Singh caught him on his landline. Gowda, however, is said to have politely refused to cross over to the UPA. What he perhaps didn’t reveal is that son H D Kumaraswamy is already in touch with Sonia Gandhi’s political advisors for Karnataka.
