The Central Police Control Room on Tuesday received hoax calls about bombs being placed in as many as ten different spots across the city, including three government-run hospitals.
While the calls from unidentified persons triggered a lot of panic, after extensive searches at the “targets”, all calls were declared hoaxes
The first call was received around 10.08 am about bombs being planted at three places — Vikas Minar in ITO, Palika Kendra (New Delhi Municipal Council headquarters) in Connaught Place and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital premises - that would be blown up in 10 minutes.
As soon as the call was flashed, bomb disposal squads and dog squads were sent to the spots along with officers. Apart from checking, police presence was increased at the places.
“We immediately evacuated all three buildings the caller had mentioned and checked each and every corner of the premises,” a senior police officer said.
While the police were conducting extensive checking at the sites, another PCR call came in at 10.22 am about a bomb being placed at the Safdarjung Hospital and not RML Hospital.
A team of South Delhi police, bomb disposal and dog squads immediately reached the Safdarjung Hospital and started search operations. “
We blocked entry to the premises until we were sure there was no bomb at the site. Only after we ensured that it was a hoax call was entry allowed,” the police officer added.
Yet another call was received at 2.02 pm about bombs at the New Delhi railway station, Town Hall and Vikas Minar, all of which were found to be hoax calls.
