Busy Nikam replaced as ’93 blasts prosecutor

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has appointed Ejaz Khan as the special public prosecutor in the 1993 serial blasts case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has appointed Ejaz Khan as the special public prosecutor in the 1993 serial blasts case. Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam was unable to attend the TADA Court as he is busy with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case.

Khan had been the special public prosecutor,along with Nikam,in the Khairlanji murder case,in which four of a Dalit family were lynched to death. Six of the accused were sentenced to death in the case.

The notification appointing Nikam as the special public prosecutor,though,will stay and another CBI lawyer HK Shukhla has been appointed to assist Khan in the case. The Supreme Court had stayed the matter against accused Abu Salem,Mustafa Dossa and two others. Before Khan’s appointment,another CBI prosecutor PA Arun was carrying out the proceedings.

In 2007,the special court,housed inside the Arthur Road Jail,had convicted 100 people on various charges and awarded death sentence to 12 people.
