SC had asked the govt to present its stand on the issue and posted the matter for hearing on Sept 14.

The Union Cabinet is likely to formulate its views next week on the issue of legalising gay sex.

"May be next week. The Cabinet has been requested to formulate its views. When the Cabinet takes a decision, it will be announced," Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters when asked whether the government had taken a view on the issue after the Delhi High Court legalised gay sex among consensual adults.

Following the High Court order, the Supreme Court had asked the government to present its stand on the issue and posted the matter for hearing on September 14.

The government had set up a three-member panel to formulate its response and convey it to the Union Cabinet which will take a final call on the matter.

The panel, comprising Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, Home Minister P Chidambaram and Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, has already analysed the pros and cons of the Delhi High Court judgement on the issue.

Gay sexBy: Hero Vaz | 29-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Why does the Cabinet need so much time to take a decision on gay sex? Are the members of the Cabinet going to try it out or conduct any experiments, first? !!
gay sexBy: Ven Sardi | 28-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Gay sex is a subject on which every individual( whether in power or not), has two views : One for public consumption and One's own private view. The blue litmus test would be their reaction when one of their own family is involved.Something to ponder over. Ven Sardi
Gay marriageBy: Kalpathy Venkataraman | 28-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward Let the Gays or Lesbians do what they want to do. It is not a burning issue for India now. This doesn't call for a high level committee. Let PC focus more on internal security and Gulam Nabi worry about swine flue. Besides these two issues, we have an impending food shortage, corruption, black money in Swiss Bank, Naxal problems, global recession etc which definitely warrant more attention. It gives me an impression that PC, Gulam and Veerappa are not doing their jobs properly and that is why there are being side lined to look into this silly matter to keep them employed.
