CAL defeats LSJA to reach Samuel Banerjee cricket final

An 84-run knock by Abhishek Mishra went in vain as his team Lucknow Sports Journalists Association had to face a seven wicket defeat at the hands of Cricket Association Lucknow team in their semi-final match of the Samuel Banerjee Memorial Veterans Cricket Tournament at Pt. RB Tewari Stadium,Lucknow on Sunday.

An 84-run knock by Abhishek Mishra (84 runs off 50 balls; 8×4,5×6) went in vain as his team Lucknow Sports Journalists Association (LSJA XI) had to face a seven wicket defeat at the hands of Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) team in their semi-final match of the Samuel Banerjee Memorial Veterans Cricket Tournament at Pt. RB Tewari Stadium,Lucknow on Sunday. On behalf of CAL XI,M Iqbal bowled well and took four wickets giving away 17 runs.

Batting first,LSJA XI scored 134 runs losing all its wickets in 19.3 overs in the 20 overs-a-side match. In reply,CAL XI was able to attain the set mark in 16.4 overs with seven wickets to spare. Yousuf Ali Khan (43 not out),RS Pawar (31) and Anurag Tiwari (24 not out) were the main run-getters for the team.

Brief Scores: LSJA XI: 134 all out in 19.3 overs ( Abhishek Mishra 84; M Iqbal 4 for 17,Mahesh Gupta 2 for 27,Yousuf Ali 1 for 18); CAL XI: 135 for three in 16.4 overs ( RS Pawar 31,Anurag Tiwari 24 not out,Yousuf Ali Khan 43 not out; Rohit Srivastava 1 for 22,Vikram Srivastava 1 for 26).

THE 2011 Lucknow Zonal billiards & snooker senior,junior and sub-junior tournament will be played at Oudh Gymkhana Club under the auspices of the Lucknow Billiards & Snooker Association (LBSA) from April 5 to 12.

According to tournament secretary IS Malik,the tournament will give an opportunity to players from Lucknow district to qualify for the Uttar Pradesh state billiards & snooker championship. The state championships will be held at the same venue from May 10 to 15.
