A day after a 25-year-old call centre employee was found murdered at her PG accommodation in Gautam Nagar in South Delhi, her parents waited endlessly outside the AIIMS mortuary for the doctors to conduct a postmortem.
“She was to get engaged next month. We were considering fixing her marriage with an engineer from Noida,” her mother Prem Lata Saxena said.
Police have not found any clues in the case and have detained Shalini’s close friends. Though no formal arrests have been made yet, police said three people have been detained on the basis of details of Shalini’s last phone calls.
A visit to her paying guest accommodation revealed that the rules were relaxed and there was no fixed timings for the girls to return. “It is more like a flat than a PG. Anybody can go in at any time they want. The deceased had a night shift and she mostly stayed indoors otherwise,” said a resident.
When Newsline contacted the paying guest accommodation owner at her mobile, one Mrs Sharma, she disconnected the phone.
Meanwhile, Shalini’s uncle, identified as Colonel Saxena, alleged she had been raped before being murdered. The police officers, however, denied there was any kind of sexual assault. “There were some marks on the victim’s thighs, leading us to believe she had been raped. It was later found that the marks were not recent. As of now, there is no basis of sexual assault. Rape can only be confirmed after the postmortem report,” a senior police officer said.
