  • The decade-long campaign for a separate SGPC in Haryana has received a major setback with the reported rift among the committee members. With the general secretary of the Haryana unit of the SGPC, Didar Singh Nalvi, reportedly at loggerheads with unit president

Jagdish Singh Jhinda, the committee is now divided into two camps.

Talking to The Indian Express today, Didar Singh Nalvi accused Jagdish Singh Jhinda of sabotaging the movement for a separate SGPC for Haryana. “Jhinda has ditched us by siding with the Haryana government. It is a big setback for the campaign launched by us. So far, the Congress government in the state has managed to hoodwink us by making false promises regarding the creation of a separate SGPC for Haryana. The fact is that the government is only stalling the issue,” said Nalvi. “Instead of starting the ‘chetna’ march in February, as planned, Jhinda has started a ‘shukrana’ march from Dabwali to mark 300 years of the Guru Granth Sahib, with support of the Haryana government,” said Nalvi.

Nalvi said the executive committee of the Haryana unit of the SGPC was contemplating to remove Jhinda from the post of president for joining hands with the Haryana government. He said the Haryana unit of the SGPC would also oppose the Congress candidates in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls if the government did not take concrete steps towards creation of a separate unit before the elections. “The Congress will pay a very heavy price for playing with the sentiments of the Sikh community in the state,’’ he said.
