The 'New Road to IELTS' introduced at the Partners Meet 2012, on Saturday, aimed at making International English Language Test System (IELTS) more efficient and initiate smoother communication with the candidates taking the test. "We would like to put quality material which people can trust through these changes we brought in. Roads to IELTS will have a 30-hour online preparation and practice resource for candidates taking the test. It provides candidates with preparation material that focuses on all the skills," says Devi Maghera, Deputy Country Exams Manager, India, British Council Division. The new 'Take IELTS' is structured by the four skills tested — reading, writing, listening and speaking rather than the previous topic based platform."Out of the 30 hours we introduced, 10 hours is open and free for all candidates to test and try their capabilities. The material that we are providing now has been collated by a global team working together to keep in place all the checks and balances," says Maghera. The candidates will also see a new feature on their website — a candidate area on ORS — which will give them access to their test information and venues with just their reference number and email ids. This interface will reduce stress on the partners with better delivery of service for the candidates. IELTS which saw 1.7 million candidates take the exam last year, will be looking forward to introducing applications for better communication and by the end of 2013 even aim to launch a computer based IELTS. "IELTS is now accepted in almost 135 countries and with the British Council we will try to give better delivery of service," says Maghera.
