Canada PM dines at dhaba

Security Over 500 police personnel deputed to Deluxe, Pal dhaba

Having kept the Chandigarh Police on tenterhooks for all of Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's — in a last minute schedule change — had dinner at Deluxe Dhaba. The much anticipated visit to Pal Dhaba in sector 28 did not materialise. Harper was accompanied with a 60-member delegation to have a taste of the typical Indian flavour.

Manish Goyal, owner of Deluxe Dhaba said: "We were told to be ready with the food as he only had breakfast since morning. But as he reached from Anandpur Sahib, he said he had something to eat at his hotel. So, he just tasted a bit of everything we prepared."

However, dinner was not the only thing enjoyed by the Canadian PM as students from University of Fraser Valley's, Chandigarh campus, entertained him with Bhangra and Gidda performance.

"We have been preparing for this performance. It was really kind of him to come up to us and appreciate our efforts," said, Ishpreet Singh Anand, one of the performers.

The dinner arrangements were made in the open and the parking area in front of the dhaba was blocked to prevent people from entering. "We got a call in the morning that the PM might go anywhere, so we had started preparing since then," said Manish Goyal.

Inspector Anokh Singh, SHO in-charge of the security arrangements for the two Dhabas said, "There are 250 policemen each around both the venues on VVIP duty since morning."

Gloom in Pal Dhaba

Fully prepared to receive and treat the Canadian PM to a delicious meal, the owner of Pal Dhaba, Mahinder Singh said: "We have been making arrangements for the past one month. At the last moment they changed the venue. All our preparations went in vain. The food we had prepared for 50 people will now be enjoyed by our cooks and waiters."
