Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj has set the tone for the last week of the Budget session of Parliament, telling The Sunday Express that just because she was seen as taking a soft line on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the CVC issue,it did not mean she would forgive him for his past and future sins.
I certainly havent forgiven him for all times to come. Lets not forget,Dr Manmohan Singh was the principal beneficiary of the 2008 trust vote. Unke agle aur pichele gunah thore maaf kiye hain, she said.
Interestingly, she added: And dont forget, even on the CVC (Central Vigilance Commissioner) issue,I was overruled. I had at that time expressed my personal opinion since I felt the Prime Minister, like no other Prime Minister, has admitted to his mistake. Then the party president spoke and stated the policy and, along with others,I too was and am bound by it. I admit I was overruled, but not snubbed as the press interpreted.
After ensuring there was a full-fledged debate on the WikiLeaks-Satish Sharma episode under Rule 193,Sushma asserted, the BJP would move a privilege motion against the PM for misleading Parliament and demand a CBI inquiry. There is 100 per cent unanimity in the party over the future course of action.
She admitted that the WikiLeaks expose was a windfall for the BJP since the diplomatic cables on pay-offs vindicated the partys stand on the episode. The corroborative evidence just fell into our lap. So why should we let it go? The US diplomat in question does not have any ulterior motive or vested interest. And the allegations are not in the nature of an analysis or observation. It is reportage of something he witnessed. There is already one FIR on the case and this evidence and allegation should be added to that complaint and then the CBI should investigate the entire episode.
Sushma maintained that it was also unjustified for the PM to say that since the Congress won the next election, the 2008 evidence of bribes for votes was no longer relevant.
