Traffic on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway was blocked for about an hour after a car caught fire inside the Kamshet tunnel on Sunday. No casualty was reported,police said.
According to the highway control authorities,the accident took place around noon when the Chevrolet Optra car (MH 43 AF 5097),on its way to Mumbai,reportedly went out of control after hitting another vehicle and rammed into the wall of the tunnel.
The car was being driven by one Neeraj Dindore who managed to immediately get out of the car,said the police.
The car first hit a container and then rammed into the wall of the tunnel. It suddenly caught fire after that, said Sub-Inspector S S Pathan of Kamshet police outpost under Vadgaon Maval
police station.
Teams from the Ideal Road Builders,which maintains the expressway,and the local police had to block the traffic on the highway for about an hour till the fire was brought under control and the car was brought out of the tunnel.
