Car overturns as gangsters try to run over cops,3 held

A day after a wanted notorious criminal from Delhi was arrested with his three accomplices,a gang of notorious criminals tried to run over a police party with an intention to kill them when they were signalled to stop near Mauli Baidwan village in Mohali on Monday.

A day after a wanted notorious criminal from Delhi was arrested with his three accomplices,a gang of notorious criminals tried to run over a police party with an intention to kill them when they were signalled to stop near Mauli Baidwan village in Mohali on Monday.

While the policemen had a narrow escape as they were quick enough to run to safety,the gangsters lost control over the recklessly driven Mitsubishi Lancer car,which somersaulted after hitting a culvert. The policemen caught hold of the armed criminals,Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said.

The nabbed gangsters were identified as Harjit Singh alias Ganja of Kharar,Balkar Singh alias Balkara and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi of Khanna,all in their mid and late 30s.

A .32 bore pistol,four live cartridges,a Lancer car and a Hyundai Santro car were recovered from them.

The SSP said that though all the three gangsters have a criminal past and were involved in several cases of thefts and assaults in different parts of the state.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the gangsters were presently involved in preparing fake registration numbers of the stolen vehicles before selling them off in the open market.

On a tip-off that the gangsters were on their way from Chandigarh towards Mauli Baidwan via Industrial Area,Phase XI,Sohana and Landran,the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) staff of Mohali police laid a special check-post at Mauli Baidwan,where a white Lancer car with a fake registration number,in which the gangsters were travelling,was signalled to stop. A case has been registered.

Another gang in three-day custody
A wanted criminal of West Delhi and his three accomplices,who were arrested on Sunday with a cache of arms,ammunition,cars and material used to prepare fake registration certificates of stolen vehicles and driving licenses,were on Monday remanded to three-day police custody by a Mohali court,CIA incharge Gurcharan Singh said.
