The high-profile visit of French President Nicolas Sarkozy to India for Republic Day may bring some glamour and paparazzi to New Delhi.
Sources indicated that Sarkozy may be accompanied by his celeb girlfriend Carla Bruni during his visit to India beginning January 24. That’s enough for sending the officials of the Ministry of External Affairs into a tizzy—over protocol.
The supermodel who is expected to be here all through the four days of the official visit cannot be given the same reception as the President as the “girlfriend is not considered wife or spouse”.
Bruni, sources said, can be given the privileges meant for “a delegate” accompanying the President. “Perhaps it’s the first time that we are faced with such a situation,” said an MEA official.
Though the list of the French President’s delegation is yet to be finalised, a senior aide of the French President met officials of the MEA to work out plans.
If the two are here together, will they head for the Taj?
