What’s it about?Any true romantic (the type that doggedly holds on to Disney-generated concepts of prince charmings and happily-ever-afters) will tell you that you can’t buy love. But can you sell love? The question that Channel V’s new reality show Truth Love Cash asks is,how much money will it take for you to dump the love of your life? So the participating couples (some might construe that just the fact that they’re taking part in such a show proves they might be happily headed to splitsville if the right incentives—read money—are provided) are offered various inducements such as Anisha—a bombshell with a hefty price tag attached to her identity—in exchange for giving up their partners.

Who’s in it?VJ Yudi is the ever-charming host who guides the seven couples—Vinit and Arsila,Navneet and Ajay,Chandrani and Hafeez,Sumit and Karishma,Vishakha and Satya,Praveen and Jogita and Hamida and Jamil—through a bevy of tasks such as getting strangers to lick chocolate off their cheeks and asking passers-by to slap them in exchange for money.

What’s hot? It’s remarkable how a tried-and-tested formula like testing the strength of love, previously utilised by shows like

Emotional Atyachar and Splitsvilla, still retains its entertainment value. The absurdity of the tasks makes them a fun watch. Things take a further interesting turn when Anisha is introduced as the “temptation” to lure the men from their girlfriends. Of course, how the “temptation” herself can get tempted by the kind of flirting the men employ is a mystery. “Does the fact that you’re from Punjab mean you like lassi?” is Hafeez’s intrepid stab at the fine art of flirtation.

What’s not?The format is highly clichéd which means the show will have to hinge its success on the creativity of the tasks the couples will be asked to perform which,we hope, won’t take a downhill dip with the forthcoming episodes. The content is also sexist enough to make feminists world over take up arms. So Anisha’s introduced as the “temptation who’s not just a temptation,” (thank god for the realisation) “but also money”. The men are asked to judge “how hot she is” notwithstanding the fact that she’s standing right there.

Should you be watching it?The show pits love against money—the two greatest driving forces in most people’s lives. Need we say more?
