  • More than Rs 4 lakh offered to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on his 86th birthday has been deposited in the Chief Minister's relief fund, the government said on Thursday.

An official press release here said that many persons had presented cash "in place of garlands" to the Chief Minister on Wednesday, working out to more than Rs 4.58 lakh.

"Though it was not announced that contributions were welcome towards the Chief Minister's Welfare Fund on the occasion of his birthday, the amount collected has been deposited in the Fund," the release said.
