Cash to voters: Cong leader gets EC notice

The election authorities have issued a showcause notice to leader of the Opposition in Assembly Mahendra Karma as an FIR was registered against him following a report that he had distributed money to voters during the campaign for the next week’s Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh.

The election authorities have issued a showcause notice to leader of the Opposition in Assembly Mahendra Karma as an FIR was registered against him following a report that he had distributed money to voters during the campaign for the next week’s Assembly polls in Chhattisgarh.

The District Returning Officer for Dantewada, from where Karma is contesting the November 14 polls, has served a notice on the Congress leader, seeking his explanation on the charge against him that he had distributed money during the campaign, said Joint Chief Electoral Officer Gaurav Dwivedi.

The District Returning Officer was investigating the matter. Appropriate action would be taken according to the provisions of law, Dwivedi added.
